ActiveDir.org is a growing community of nearly 4,000 members.  We welcome the community to contribute and share useful information to our site.  Here you will find everything you need to know about publishing articles to ActiveDir.org.

Getting Started

First thing you will need to do is register with us.  It should only take a couple of minutes before you are fully assimilated!  Now once you are done with that small administrative nuance, and you are logged with the your very own ActiveDir.org account, carry on reading.

Creating an Article

When you are authenticated a new set of options will magically become available to you in the top right pane of the site and will be titled Article Admin (if you were familiar with the old site this should look familiar).

• My Articles
  
  This allows you to manage all your articles, published, in draft form or awaiting approval 

• Create Article
  
  Takes you to the Create New Article form

Creating your first Article

Creating an Article is pretty easy.  Click the Create Article link, Enter a Title, select your Categories, enter a Summary and Article Details (this forms the main body of your article).

You can ignore these sections:

• Article Publishing
• Article Appearance
• Article Link

Using Images

Feel free to use images in your Article Details (body text).  In order to upload and insert your images follow this process:

• Click on the Insert/Edit Image button (it looks like mountains for some reason)
• Click Browse Server
• Pick the Images folder
• Click Browse and select your image file (JPG or GIF)
• Click 'Upload New File'
• Now you should see your image in the thumbnails
• Select your image by clicking it

Now you should see your image displayed in the Article

Attaching Files and Creating Links

You can attach files to your article and make them available for download.

• Click on the Insert/Edit Link
• Click on Browse Server
• Select File (A File on Your Site)
• Click Upload New File
• Click Browse to select the file you wish to upload
• Click Upload Selected File
• Click Use Selected Link

and you are done.

If you wish to only insert a link to an external resource, or a link on our site then you can follow this same procedure but selecting Url and Page in step 3 mentioned above.

Guidelines for Article Content

We like to be search engine friendly, so like to keep our Html as compliant and lightweight as possible.  By following these guidelines you would greatly help us to keep our content uniformed, readable and responsive.

• Keep the use of complex Html structure and Tables to a minimum.  Only use tables when displaying tabular data and not for layout.
• Use the Style drop-list within the editor to choose a style.
• When posting sample code, always use the style provided in the Style drop list;
