Did you extend the schema for SP2?

Brian,
We have had similar problems but have not got as far as you with diagnosis. We were hoping a re-build would cure, but it actually seems to make things worse, so would also appreciate feed back if you make progress.
Dave.

Subject: [ActiveDir] OT: SMS implementation woes

We've just purchased SMS 2003 SP2 and are having a heck of a time getting it up and running, and I wanted to see if anyone has ideas before I nag PSS for a while.

We ran the 120-day evaluation earlier this year (when it was still SP1) and did not have any of the problems I'm about to describe. Last week when I initially installed the licensed copy, everything ran great for about a day or so. I had successfully discovered all our devices and pushed out the advanced client to them, and the console showed that. The trouble began when I wanted to start advertising new packages -- the advertisements never ran. The package status showed that the package had never been copied to the distribution point, which resides on the site server. It remained this way all weekend and never changed, and I could not find any log entries indicating why. Soon thereafter, certain things in SMS stopped working--namely the service manager, which simply reports there is an error communicating with the site server (even when run locally). And using wbemtest to query SMScomponents returned a "general failure."

Monday I reinstalled SMS, since there really wasn't much data to be lost here -- nothing I couldn't get back in an hour or two, anyway. I've only been able to get all the machines re-discovered (no advanced client install yet) before experiencing the same problems again -- both the service manager error and the failed wbemtest query. It can, however, retrieve class information for SMScomponents, so it would appear that WMI itself is still doing fine. Furthermore, the last log messages I see in site status are from 12:30pm yesterday (saying a collection had been updated). At the bare minimum I would expect to have seen messages from 4am today indicating it has updated several collections automatically, but I don't even see that.

Does anyone have some insight on where to begin trying to solve these problems? I've looked through several KB articles but haven't had much luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
