Hi All

I am getting a strange problem, I am able to indentify the cause of the
problem.. not sure how to proceed to fix that.

Windows 2003 R2 Domain and Windows XP as a Client, All users are
configured to use Home Drive configured on remote server. MyDocuments
redirected to Home Drive. Offline Sync is configured for myDocuments during
the Logon and LogOff. Logon script is configued to map the Network Drivers.
Problem:
If the user Home Drive and Network Drive mapping to the same NAS
server. Then the script is not mapping the drive.. I am able to observe if
the offline sync started during the logon session if it delays to sync , in
mean time the logon scripts executes and fails to MAP the network drive if
it belongs to same NAS server. But, some times it is able to map the drive
but, Partial visible of files and folder (i.e if the network mapped drive
contains 15 folders , it may show only 4 or less). This happens when the
Offline Sync Icon visible in System tray. But if the network Drive and
Home Drive belong to different NAS servers.. It will not have the same
problem.
1. Is it possible to launch the Logon Script after the offline sync is
completed or any other alternative solution.
2. If the laptop is used by multiple users, Every time the user logon, the
Offline try to SYNC for all the previous logon users. How to restrict or
delete in windows XP.

Thanks in advance
Venkat

Hello...

When you say you map the drive, and
see "less" folders, you are actually seeing what is in the offline
files cache. You are offline at that point. (which is why you
get the icon) Some folders are automatically configured for offline unless
you tell them not to be.

The problem with it syncing everyone's
files that has logged in is well known. You can fool around with
it some

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=811660

If all of your users home drives are
on the same NAS, and it tries to sync someone's files that this user doesn't
have permission to, it will probably produce errors and go offline against
that NAS (or whatever)

Delivering the login script with a user
policy, shouldn't produce problems, but if the machine decides the server
is offline you probably won't get too far. Multiple user laptops
can be a real headache using this. Unless you do what it says in
that article, and that's still far from perfect.

Hi John

Thanks for your quick reply, i do understand
the problems of multiuser laptop with offline files is a real
headache...

Regarding the NAS drive Mapping.. Let me
write down in detail considering two different NAS severs.

\\NASServer1\UserHOme\
= All User Home Folder
\\NASserver1\BusinessData1=
These Folder are mapped to H: drives using logon script depending on Security
Groups
\\NASServer2\BusinessData2 =
These Folder are mapped toY: drives using logon script depending on
Security Groups
If the userhome folderbelong to
NASServer1 and configured for offline sync only for the Mydocuments, Where
myDdocuments redirected to \Data">\\NASServer1\UserHome\\Data.
Logon Scripts some times , does not Map Drive H: belongs to same nas
server as \\NASServer1\BusinessData1. If it
maps then it will show only less number of folders till it complete the offline
sync during logon.

At the same time, Logon Scripts Maps Y: drive
and able to access those folders as Normal..

Hope this gives you more idea.

Venkat

Yeah, it's going offline against \\NASServer1,
probably because of the home drives. Once it's offline, You can't
really get it back, unless you sync, or otherwise.

It really doesn't matter if there's
one folder, or 20 that want to sync, offline is offline. It's not
very robust.

Even worse if you had home drives on
a domain DFS, it would go offline against the entire DFS, and you can't
get anywhere.

You can try what's in the article, and
make only the primary users folders available offline, which would be a
pain when it changes hands. Or move the home drives, or businessdata1
to another server. You could probably put the business data on DFS,
and make the cache "think" it's a different server.

I have heard of people using two different
names for the server or something like that, but I've never tried it. Maybe
someone else will chime in.

Lately I've also heard of people using
shadow copy for offline files, but I've never tried that either. Not
sure if it's 2003 or 2008 actually.
