Round robin versus subnet prioritisation

Hi,

3rd of 4 DNS questions J

We’ve been discussing round robin (“RR”) vs subnet prioritisation (“SP”).

Naturally, we’ll utilise RR but I’m unsure whether we need to enable SP on DNS servers, given that (I believe) XP clients have a SP feature enabled by default anyway.

My questions is basically:

Is SP enabled on XP clients by default?

If yes, then I suspect we’ll have no need to enable SP on DNS servers too.

Any offers / opinions / experiences?

Thanks,

neil

I believe that SP is enabled by default (at least on Win2k and XP
clients), although check with your desktop build engineers, as they
may have disabled it.

I think the client resolver only uses SP if it gets given multiple A
records in response to a query - and it doesn't care what flavour the
DNS server is (BIND, Windows, djbDNS, etc).

I could very well be wrong.
