We have a App that we Assigned with Group Policy to our workstations
that we now need to remove. The option to "Uninstall this application
when it falls out of the scope of management" was and still is checked.
The problem is that the MSI package no longer exists at the Software
Distribution Point and our backups of that MSI had failed. L L

My questions are:

1. Do I need the MSI to exist at the source for the application to
uninstall without issue??? I believe it will successfully uninstall but
may cause a hang during the policy refresh.

Reference the SourceList key for that app in the registry

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Installer\Products\9A41C65EFB191744B
B75C52CFA75813E\SourceList

2. If the answer is "yes" to question 1 then do I need the "exact" MSI
or can I use a MSI of that product with the same filename? Meaning, is
there a thumbprint of hash referencing the original MSI?

Thanks much.

>From past experience, whether you need the MSI at the original location
depends on the app. Old versions of MS Office would fall over if they
couldn't get the original MSI; newer ones cache the MSI locally so the
fact the server copy is not available probably doesn't matter.

The worst are ones which copy stuff to %temp% and install from there -
there's almost no chance that the MSI will be available at a later date.

If you can't uninstall it and its presence is preventing an upgrade
running then you can use MSIZap in a script to clean up the left overs.
