How to move a DHCP database from a computer that is running Windows NT
Server 4.0, Windows 2000, or Windows Server 2003 to a computer that is
running Windows Server 2003

That's a good point. Except for recreating all the DHCP entries, just making
a new DC is probably easier. It would be nice to keep the same name, as we
have a naming convention for servers, but it's not critical.

Are you really trying to keep the DCs name, or something? What else is
running on the DC? If the DC is dedicated (to AD and 'infrastructure'
services like DHCP & DNS), I don't see a whole lot of benefit, vs. just
blowing out a new DC and replicating. Keep in mind the goal should be to
keep DCs as clean and stable as possible, and regardless how good P2V might
be, it's one more 'moving part' in the history of that DC.

(I didn't want to hijack the thread, but since this question is somewhat
similar to the discussion already at hand, I thought I'd change the subject
line appropriately and have at it.)

Has anybody P to V'd a DC? We're contemplating just that. I'm thinking it
*should* be OK, since it's kinda like doing a graceful shutdown of a DC,
then powering it back up again, only this time it's on a VM instead of on
the former standalone box.

But, I've been wrong before. So, that's why I'm asking the experts!

Many thanks in advance, folks.
