Should SQL 2005 and SharePoint have this configured as TCP/IP and Named
Pipes?

Go to "All Programs->Microsoft SQL Server 2005->Configuration Tools->SQL
Server Surface Area Configuration" Click "Surface Area Configuration For
Services and Connections", Select "Remote Connections" and check if it
is enabled for Local and Remote Connections and whether TCP/IP or named
pipes of both

How do you want to connect?

If remotely, then typically TCP/IP is used now, rather than named pipes.

And please do something about all those logos in your signature...

Cheers
Ken
