| I have to archive some mailboxes on an Exchange 2003 server and would like to use the Exchange 2003 Mailbox Merge Wizard. However, these mailboxes are over 2GB and I was wondering if exmerge 2003 has the same 2GB .pst file size limitation as Outlook 2000 and XP, or can it create .pst files larger than 2GB like Outlook 2003? Thanks in advance,

| Dan,
No, there should not be an issue with "creating" the PST file. However,
it still holds true that you risk corruption with PST files over a gig
or so.

Are you sure? Outlook 2003 does not have a 2GB limit on PST files and I
thought that the latest version of ExMerge created PST's using the Outlook 2003
format.

Agreed. Outlook 2003 can have a larger PST size
than the Office XP and earlier versions. "Microsoft Office Outlook
2003 has both a different format and a larger overall size limit for the
personal folders (.pst) file than the .pst files that are in the earlier
versions of Microsoft Outlook" After all, I have a 2.6gig PST file for
logs. But, be careful about corruption. :)

| Your right... I attended the Microsoft Office 2003 release event in San Francisco for IT professionals and Microsoft stated that the new Unicode file format would support 4gb, then a few months back I read a Microsoft Knowledge base article that states it supports 16 gb, I assume that this also applies to a .OST file even thought the maximum Exchange mailbox is limited to 2.5 gb on the server.
In my opinion if you have that much mail and you need to archive it as I do, may I suggest creating separate PST files and name them for each year 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, Etc.. That way
you can easily sort your mail by year that it was sent or received. It's extremely easy to mount a PST any time you need it. Just a thought.
Peace!

| ExMerge != Outlook.
There is no "2.5 GB" limit on mailboxes in Exchange. I have several
users that significantly exceed that size. There is a limit in the UI
for setting a maximum mailbox size.

| Dude..
I would agree that there is no limit in Exchange. However, This guy
wants to make a 2gig PST.

ExMerge != Outlook.
There is no "2.5 GB" limit on mailboxes in Exchange. I have several
users that significantly exceed that size. There is a limit in the UI
for setting a maximum mailbox size.

Your right... I attended the Microsoft Office 2003 release event in San
Francisco for IT professionals and Microsoft stated that the new Unicode
file format would support 4gb, then a few months back I read a Microsoft
Knowledge base article that states it supports 16 gb, I assume that this
also applies to a .OST file even thought the maximum Exchange mailbox is
limited to 2.5 gb on the server.
In my opinion if you have that much mail and you need to archive it as I
do, may I suggest creating separate PST files and name them for each
year 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, Etc.. That way
you can easily sort your mail by year that it was sent or received. It's
extremely easy to mount a PST any time you need it. Just a thought.
Peace!

earlier versions. "Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 has both a different
format and a larger overall size limit for the personal folders (.pst)
file than the .pst files that are in the earlier versions of Microsoft
Outlook" After all, I have a 2.6gig PST file for logs. But, be careful
about corruption. :)

The .pst file has a different format and folder size limit in Outlook
2003
It's my understanding that the latest version of ExMerge use the new
Unicode PST format.

Dan,
No, there should not be an issue with "creating" the PST file.
However,
it still holds true that you risk corruption with PST files over
a gig
or so.

I have to archive some mailboxes on an Exchange 2003 server and
would
like to use the Exchange 2003 Mailbox Merge Wizard. However,
these

the same
2GB .pst file size limitation as Outlook 2000 and XP, or can it
create
.pst files larger than 2GB like Outlook 2003?
Thanks in advance,

| ExMerge supports doing select merging based on criteria like dates. That's
how I always approached that issue in the past.
You need to run ExMerge in batch mode with a config file to do it though.
Its all in the docs. --------
