| I have been trying to research this error for a while but I only seem to
find the error code.
When I run replmon and have it check for replication errors I receive the
failure code of 8464 for a large number of my directory partition. When I
searched for this code online I find that it means:
"8464 The replication synchronization attempt failed as the destination
partial attribute set is not a subset of source partial attribute set."
Since all of these servers should be replicating with each other, I can't
figure out why they would be different or what attribute set is not
replicated correctly. I haven't been able to find any additional
information on this. With the exception of the following message when I run
DCDIAG on my servers:
Starting test: Replications
REPLICATION LATENCY WARNING
DC02: This replication path was preempted by higher priority work.
from DC01 to DC02
Reason: Synchronization attempt failed because the destination
DC is currently waiting to synchronize new partial attributes from source.
This condition is normal if a recent schema change modified the partial
attribute set. The destination partial attribute set is not a subset of
source partial attribute set.
The last success occurred at 2006-02-20 06:46:34.
Replication of new changes along this path will be delayed.
I see a number of these on the DCDIAG but the successfully replication time
is correct.
Could this be an indication of a failed enterprise scheme update? Does
anyone have any suggestions as to where I look next for additional
troubleshooting.
Thanks,
Charlie

| Have you done a schema update. Can you give some background as to how
you got to this stage? can we have some details of the environment.
Which DCs are replicating OK? Have you built or decommissioned any DCs
recently?

| The AD structure is an empty root multi-child domain structure with the
domains have a geologically grouping. I am familiar with the root and two
of the children domains. Of these domains no domain controllers have been
created or decommissioned for some time.
I was told that someone initiated a scheme update (for SMS 2003) a "few
weeks ago." From the date that I was told the update occurred about a week
and a half before we began to see these errors. This update would have
occurred on a root DC in Ireland. I have a root DC in my location in the US
with direct site links between this locations. Replication has indicated
that these two DCs are synced with each other.
We are receiving the second error that I have listed on almost every DC that
my servers replicate with. The first shows up on directory partitions on
about half of the domains in the forest.
Is there anything else that might be helpful? I'm not sure how I go about
tracking what change isn't being replicated so that I can find out how where
it came from. That might help us to track down how to correct the problem.
Thanks,
Charlie

It talks of two log files that may have the success/failure info of
the extension process. If this is OK then we need to find which
directory partitions are not in sync. Have all the root DCs sync'd OK?
Thats the first step I guess.
Assuming the child DCs and the root DC at your location are in the
same site, has the schema and configuration partitions sync'd? What
happens when you try ot use replmon and force a pull replication of
the schema from a Root DC partner?

| Replmon indicates that even though the USNs are not the same all of the
replication changes have occurred successfully.
So, does replmon trump DCDIAG?

| No the two tools are different. They should both report the same info
as far as replication status goes. If two servers pull from the same
server the same partition, the USN should be the same. What I am
interested in is when the last replication happened and whether it was
successful.
Try running the following command to check repl status across the estate.
repadmin /replsum /bysrc /bydest /sort:delta
This should show you the repl status in your domain. depending on the
account you are logged in with it may show the relevant domains DC
replication status.
