I have an HP 2430 and an HP 9050 in my environment. I just got them and
installed them on my server and shared them out. When I go to a local
workstation and login as a regular user, go to START, RUN and type in
the UNC path of the server to install the network printer on the
workstation I am unable to print and get the following error message
when I go to the properties of that printer. Older printers have worked
fine like this in the past.

Function address 0x4f56a0bd caused a protection fault. (exception code
0xc0000005) Some or all property pages may not be displayed.

Has any one seen this and fixed it?

Is there an event log? Windows version??

My situation:
Windows 2003 std. It houses 10 print queues. Half would print with any
domain user account and the others would only print with a domain admin
account. Those domain users have full access to all printers. Got fed up
and purged the spooler and reinstalled all drivers over. It worked. A
lot of weir stuff with W23K.

Sounds like a driver problem to me as the driver runs in kernel mode and is almost certainly causing this protection fault.
I would check the version of the driver on the server and then look for a newer one at HP.
If that doesn't fix it substitute a PS driver for the PCL driver (or viceversa).

We figured it out, please see

We ended up configuring Group Policy to
grant modify rights to the directory listed in this article.  We got the hotfix
from MS but it did not work.

IIRC exception code 0xc0000005 is an access denied. Do normal users have the
right to install drivers on their workstations?
