| This might already be old news by the time my message
reaches the list (I get digest) but there’s an updated version of the
Exchange DST tool out.

| This appears to be the one they showed on the webcast two days ago. It
has a pull-down list on the first config page to pick the Outlook
profile. And, it automatically creates a subdirectory named after the
Exchange server. And, the config files actually get created correctly.
Now, if the new Outlook tool due out next week is smarter than what we
have now, we might actually have a useful rebasing tool that we can run
against the server.

I was hoping it would be the one you mentioned two days ago in this
email message :) They alluded to it in the webcast from two days ago,
also.

Forget what I said... what a difference a day makes
* In addition, there will be an update to the Data Update Tools
for Outlook and Exchange coming soon. The update is based on customer
feedback requesting additional functionality. If you are able to
accomplish your tasks with the current tools, no changes are necessary.
Here are some of the changes coming in the updated tool:
1. Ensuring that single instance items created after the date on
which the operating system time zone updates were applied are not
rebased
2. Rebasing calendar items and suppressing calendar updates
3. Rebasing resource mailboxes
4. Rebasing calendars items stored in public folders
5. Reporting the changes made by the Outlook Time Zone Data Update
tool

| I thought it was just the v2 of the Exchange rebasing not the "let your
employees blow up their own calendar Outlook standalone" tool?

| Susan,
I'm positive you know a lot more about this than I would! All I know is
hearsay. I do remember seeing the email discussion out of the corner of
my eye while watching the webcast on Tuesday that there would be a new
Outlook rebasing tool next week, and should we wait for it or not? I was
actually paying attention to the big PowerPoint slides and listening to
the speakerphone, so I kinda missed most of that side discussion.
I guess we'll wait and see what happens on Monday. In any case, unless
there's a newer, vastly improved Outlook rebasing tool, we won't be
using either it or the Exchange-wrapped version. As you say, all it did
in our testing was blow up everybody's calendar - even years into the
future - so we're just patching OS's and apps for now.

"This update is a newer version of the wrapper, it went live yesterday,
there is supposed to be a significant improvement in perf as well as the
ability to scan through recurring meetings to get better coverage in

| I interpreted that as a new Exchange tool not an Outlook tool but in
hindsight and rereading I think you are right... but regardless.... I've
blown up enough Outlook profiles for now and I'll deal with the
bloodshed on March 12th. Whatever happens, happens.
(honest on) This has to be the worst handling of patching computers I
have ever seen and worse than security issues...too bad DST patches
couldn't be handled by the MSRC because quite frankly this is the most
unorganized mess I've seen in eons. And yes, while I can be politically
incorrect and blame the Government and George W for this disaster, the
fact that I've lost track of the revisions of tools, the updates to
pages, the patches still to come ... the permissions that need to be
reset on systems... the sheer "Change Management" that is being asked
the typical admin out here is ridiculous and is exposing firms to
Security risks as well...notice everyone on the Patch communities are
hardly talking about security ones....
I'm hoping my Dixon Ticonderoga #2 won't need patching come that
Monday. I'm probably going to find it needs one as well.
To come apparently? Yes?
One Outlook tool (maybe? but I don't care)
One CRM bundle
One DST patch on 2/26 for certain Mobile 5 Pocket pcs (details to come,
so sorry for the delay)
(and to think I thought it a good idea to move Daylight savings change
until after Halloween... I should have my head examined for that one)
Oh yeah..and Western Australia is asking why they didn't get such
attention when they went through this mess.

| Western Australia's DST patch is currently a VERRRY high priority, I assure
you. :-) Any MSFT FTE who was at TR4 can attest to that.

Subject: Re: [ActiveDir] Version 2.0 of the Exchange Tool
