| Yesterday I installed an MSDN copy of Server 2003 Standard. After it
was done, I ran Windows Update, and it said I needed to install Service
Pack 2. So I clicked ok rather absentmindedly (thinking about XP SP2
and not that W2K3 is on SP1 still). After it finished (no reboot), I
tried to check for updates again. There should be some 60 post-SP1
patches, and it said there were none. That's when I stopped to think,
it had installed SP2? But, is SP2 out yet? According to
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/windowsserver/sp2.mspx, SP2 is a
Release Candidate. I didn't imagine this - I did indeed use Windows
Update to grab this update, it was the only update option I saw
(default), and I have a screen shot showing that it is Version 5.2
(Build 3790.srv03_sp2_rc.061103-1303:Service Pack 2, v.28
I tried updating my lab server at work today and there was no SP2 to be
found - but then it has numerous patches already.
So... since we all have Windows Server... anyone seen this yet, or know
why Windows Update would have pulled SP2 while it's an RC2?

| About a week? two weeks? ago a driver came down that shouldn't have to
many XP sp2 machines.
It's possible you are/were pointing to beta servers.
It's possible that MU was horked up.
It's possible you are living in a time space vortex and have time
traveled into the future and while you are there can you grab XP sp3 and
share?
(Dang is that DST patch good or what!)
That windowsupdate.log will tell you if you have a time vortex or if MU
screwed up and how.

| OMG... I think I might be the victim of my own poorly labled CDs...
seems to me I did indeed slipstream RC2 into a W2K3 source for testing,
and I might have grabbed that CD yesterday by mistake. I'm sorry
people. Wow. This should be a good lesson for someone, hopefully...
Susan asked me for the Windows Update log, and in there, I saw that
there was an update pulled for "Update for Windows Server 2003 Service
Pack 2 (KB931836)" which is actually the time zone update. It must have
already had SP2 on it.
Wow. I'm gonna go crawl in a hole and hide till tomorrow... ;) -----Original Message-----

| No I think I screwed up. Not absolutely 100%, but I think it was me
using something I made with SP2 in it.
I wonder what would happen if you tweaked the SP2 install to run on XP,
if it would be like XP SP3? :) Perhaps one day again
(*cough*vista+lhs*cough*) the same SP will work on both clients.
