The issue is consistently reproducible. I know a "security" product that makes your computer go back to many previous states, and one of thesymptoms ofgoing too far back is the loss ofcomputerpasswords. Rejoining the domain is the only cure that we had for such issues back then. Netdom never worked, I am not sure if it does now.

Can you recreate the issue? Or has this only happened once?

Wow. A months worth of data on the machine account?

As a quick pass at this, I'm guessing that you're running into a situation where you've restored the machine to a data previous to the last machine account password change which occurs every 30 days by default with xp. When you bring it back to a state prior, you're trying to use invalid credentials (bad password for the machine) and by removing it from the domain and re-adding it, you are effectively creating a new account with a new password. That makes it work for you.

Using netdom to reset the account might be faster as was mentioned by Steve in the original thread.

Can you give a time frame relating to how far back you have to go to get this issue?

When I revert to a snapshot on an XP machine in AD, if I go back far enough, I am unable to connect.

I have tried reseting the computer account and reseting the secure channel with nltest, but nothing seems to work besides dropping the box out of the domain and putting it back in.

What is causing this, and what am I missing?

Thanks!
