Neil; I did look up Newton. I stand corrected. Right time frame. My appologies. The US/Imperial measurement is extremely close but a very slight measurement but does cloud the argument. Acres are easier here in America as everything is already measured that way. Making things very inconvienient to describe to someone who doesn't understand metric how many hectares 40 acres involves (~16.1..?) I can pretty much look at a piece of land and say its so many acres. Where I do have some difficulty describing the same acrage in hectares. Maybe a blind spot for me or not enough practice. Either way most Americans wouldn't have the foggiest idea if I said my farm was 16.1 ha. Most of the American mid-west was divided up back in the 1850s and 1860s resulting in 1 mile square blocks of land (640 acres) and divided from there. Hence the difficulty changing to metric.
