Greetings ...

Wanted to get a quick show of hands about the direction for our team at work
which is trying to design the collapse of disparate AD forests (each with
their own disparate Exchange orgs) into one, new forest and new Exchange
organization.

There is some discussion/debate between two camps about what should happen
when:

In the first camp is a group of folks who want to migrate just the mailboxes
(using Quest's Migration Manager for Exchange) into the new
forest--essentially using the forest as an Exchange resource forest. At a
later date, perform the AD principal and BackOffice (as Quest calls it--the
file servers, the SQL servers, etc.) migration. This of necessity uses and
keeps in place a trust between the source forest and the target forest until
the migration is complete.

In the second camp there are those who want to perform the AD and Exchange
migrations in parallel (of necessity, AD user accounts migrated first
followed in its heels by Exchange data migration).

What are you opinions on these two scenarios? Which would you do first,
last, etc.?

Thanks!

Fred Woodbridge
