It seems that a user has been deleting their emails as they have been
sending them and I am currently unable to view any of their sent
emails, also I cant recover these because it seems they were doing
this immediately after sending their emails for quite sometime - does
anyone know of a way I may be able to retrieve these emails?

You should still be able to recover them through the "Recover Deleted
Items" option. Depending on what you have your Deletion settings set to
on the Mailbox Store, you may have to do multiple restore operations to
get all the mails.

Your user may have sent items turned off. So no messages to recover.
Outlook - Tools - Options - Email Options - Save copies of email messages in Sent Items folder.

If the messages were hard deleted from the sent items folder without moving to deleted items first, you can do a registry hack to get access to those files. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/178630. Assuming the deletion settings on the store have not been exceeded.



I would also read up on "Message-only Journaling" for Exchange 2003.

It does not solve your current dilemma. But will help with similar situations in the future.
