Security Explorer by Scriptlogic is my tool of preference for that, but its not free.

| If by backup you mean report for later recovery, then try tools such as
xcacls, subinacl, etc. You'll find them on Microsoft's website.
If you mean backup for later recovery, your backup software should take care
of that for you.

| If you have Windows 2003 SP2, use Icacls.exe, you will like it. Eithwer
that or as mentioned before backup software should restore the
permissions.
