| Hi, I have been having an issue with our network after a planned outage. We rebooted majority of the servers and since then any files on network or local disk takes a few minutes to open.
The files opens quicker if the application is launched and then selected from file open menu however double clicking the file always causes the hour glass to appear and some times hangs the machine until it opens.
The Workstations are running Windows XP SP3.
There is one other thing; if I disable the network card then the local files open normal speed.
Thank you
Kashif

| I would check if there is something loading behind the explorer.exe, I had cases where winzip for example was loaded from a remote location so every times that the explorer loads something winzip was being consulted on the network causing delays in the explorer responses.
Can you run Autoruns ? , and check if there is something strange being loaded on the explorer Tab ?

| Download Process Monitor http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645.aspx and have a look what it is happening. You’ll see what is happening at a network level but you’ll also see what is happening at a file and registry level.
We’ve had a few interesting incidents where there was something in the user’s profile that was looking for network resources that didn’t exist anymore. Removing the profile and recreating it fixed the issue. I never got to the bottom of why it happens.
