| I would strongly recommend you to upgrade the DCs first as Exchange 2007 requires Windows Server 2003 SP1 GCs to be supported. FYI: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff728623(EXCHG.141).aspx Yes the schema extensions for Exchange 2007 will trigger a rebuild of PAS. I'm actually not sure what happens in a single domain/forest environment so I leave that to be answered by some one that know for sure, but from a DBLayer point of view, objects aren't stored twice for PAS/GC.
A rise of the FFL to Windows Server 2003 Level will trigger those attributes to be added to PAS: * Ms-DS-Trust-Forest-Trust-Info * Trust-Direction * Trust-Attributes * Trust-Type * Trust-Partner * Security Identifier * Ms-DS-Entry-Time-To-Die * MSMQ-Secured-Source * MSMQ-Multicast-Address * Print-Memory * Print-Rate * Print-Rate-Unit * MS-DRM-Identity-Certificate
In addition to the above Windows Server 2008/Windows Server 2008 R2 schema extension will add those (if FFL is 1 or greater) Note: Some of those are set back to FALSE being removed from PAS.

I have a customer with a single domain Windows 2000 forest. The customer wants to start an upgrade programme for all domain controllers and move to either Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2. Well before this work is complete, the customer also wants to implement Exchange 2007.
I understand that the schema updates for Windows Server will not trigger a GC full sync, as the additions to the PAS are only implemented when the forest functional level is raised to Windows Server 2003 or beyond. However, having looked at the schema extensions for Exchange 2007, it appears that there are several instances where isMemberofPartialAttributeSet is set to TRUE, so I'd assume a GC full sync would be on the cards as there will only be a handful of Windows Server 2008 DCs in the forest when the Exchange schema extensions are applied.
But...and here is the real nub of my question...as the forest contains only a single domain, would a GC full sync actually take place?
