| Hi
We encounter a problem on a Windows 7 computer (active directory 2003) In the DNS console, we only see the IPV6 adress displayed When we run ipconfig /registerdns, IPV4 adress appears but disapears after a reboot of the machine... We try to uncheck IPV6 in the NIC properties of the computer, but it did not change anything...
Have you ever encountered this king of problem ?

| I must add this information : When the IP of the computer is set dynamically, the IP registered in DNS is only IPV6 When we set the IP manually, the IP is coorectly displayed in IPV4 format in the DNS....
I must know if this behavior is normal or not with W2008/Windows 7 OS ?? Is there a way to enforce IPV4 registration only under DNS ?? (is there operation to make under DHCP management ?) I'm not sure...

| Hi Cedric
By unchecking the IPv6 in the network properties ironically does not disable all of the IPv6 components. You need to do this in the registry by adding a Reg_Dword called DisabledComponents in the HKLM\CurrentControlSet\Services\TCPIP6\Parameters hive and set the value to ffffffff (hex). A restart is required.
As for your DNS registrations on IPv4, in advanced TCP/IP properties, do you have the "Register this connection IP Address in DNS" checkbox enabled on the DNS tab?
Check the GUID folder (one per NIC) in the following hive HKLM\CurrentControlSet\Services\TCPIP\Parameters\DNSRegisteredAdapters for potential issues too.

| I'm trying to understand if this behavior is normal :
With a static IP : the IPV4 and IPV6 is registered in the DNS With a dynamic IP : only the IPV6 is registered in the DNS...
..... I'm looking for MS references, rfc or something like that

| I've experienced the problem you've noted. I don't have a MS DHCP server, but the Win7 computer is getting it's IP via DHCP. I ended up disabling IPv6 to resolve this, but it sure seems like broken behavior to me. It seems valid to me to want both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses dynamically registered and use DHCP.
