| This question is regarding objects in AD sites and services. I see 2 objects in a site that are not domain controllers. The objects are share point servers and each has an object in the built in computers container. The only item under these objects (right pane) is NAME="MSMQ Settings" TYPE="MSMQ Settings" Name & Type being the headers in the right pane. I have been searching for related articles involving share point and servers showing as domain controller objects in sites and services and even MSMQ searches but have come up empty handed. I would like to believe these share point servers were originally set up as DC's and then demoted, but I cannot find proof of them ever being DC's (replmon, show retired partners). They do not have any NTDS Settings and do not show up in NTDSutil either.
I am hesitant to delete the objects from sites and services as I do not know how they were originally populated there and if there is a reason for them to be there. Does anyone know or has anyone else seen a similar situation? If so please steer me in the right direction. TIA!

| MSMQ is an AD integrated service. Remember AD Sites and Services has the and
services part. Things will show up in there exposing services which are
AD integrated (e.g. MSMQ, Exchange, etc).

| Typically I have always seen MSMQServices under the
services tab (View / Show services node) and it does reside there, as well as
Microsoft Exchange. I do not recall ever seeing the server object under
the Site / Servers / servername though. Although I do not view this as a
big problem or misconfiguration I still wonder why the object shows up as it
were an orphaned DC under Site / Servers /
Servername.
I just
want to validate the server object existence in the Sites & Services
hierarchy and document why it is there. Thanks for the reply
Brian.

| I just
found an article:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/windowsserver2003/library/ServerHelp/2744bec1-cb37-4d89-b90e-8140f0f7d7de.mspx
To set permissions for MSMQ Settings objects
1.
Open Active Directory Sites and Services.
2.
In the console tree, select the applicable server object.
Where?
¢
Active Directory Sites and
Services/Sites/YourSiteObject/Servers/YourServerObject
So I
have confirmed they do belong there. Thanks again Brian, I just needed a
little nomenclature for my search.
