| Would I be right in thinking that you can't control Virtual PC 2007 via
GPO. Specifically I want to redirect the "My Virtual Machines" machines
folder that gets created under "My Documents" back to the local hard
drive.

| You could use Process Monitor while you start VPC or the wizard that loads
this string or whatever, and then search the results for the 'My Virtual
Machines' string. Assuming it loads from the registry you could make a
custom ADM to change the path via GP.

| I have a feeling that it's not set in the registry - it's hard coded into the VPC application. Ben Armstrong explained how it works a while back in one of the MVP chats. I'll see if I can did it up.

So I was hoping there was a way to redirect <My Virtual Machines> back to the local disk, either via an adm or registry tattooing. I'm not looking at automatically moving existing VMCs and VHDs. Just in preventing future "mistakes".

I think you might have a hard time doing this if you are currently using Folder Redirection to redirect My Docs. You might just want to check, for a given user account, under HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders and see if My Virtual Machines is listed as a folder type there. If so, you could try changing its value to the default profile location, but my experience with pre-Vista and Folder Redirection is that if the parent folder is redirected, using this registry tweak to try and move sub-folders of it do not work.
