Do you know if the "Windows Server External Connector" license is needed if implementing a Microsoft PKI that issues certificates for external users (parners, suppliers, etc...)? Also... does any external user require a Windows CAL? Thanks - Gabriele. Licensing is, as you know, a bunch of voodoo. You need to ask MS for sure. BUT, the basic rule is: If all connections to the server are AUTHENTICATED, then you use a Per-Server, Per-User, or Per-Device license on the server side, and clients need CALs. This sounds like your scenario to me. The External Connector license is required when you're connecting a server to the Internet for "anonymous" access, i.e. a web site. This does not sound like your scenario to me. That's my understanding, anyway.
