| I am bumping my head to find some documentation about GPP, especially about
the LDAP-Query item-level targeting, but I could not find any. just these
couple of overviews:

excruciating detail but perhaps I can help track it down if you have
specific questions?

Another issue I face is with Local Users and Groups preferences, for example
when I want to update a local group membership, I get the group
description cleared on the client, GPP assumes I want to update the
description as well (that of course I kept blank).

GPP support pretty extensive trace logging, including the evaluation of
ILTs, for each policy extension area. If you go to download.microsoft.com
and search on Group Policy Preferences ADMX, youll find the MSI file that
installs the GPP ADMX file that exposes the trace logging. Give that a try
and see if it gets you what you need.
In addition, on your Update issue, unfortunately, GPP takes whatever is in
that UI as what you want to push down to the client, including empty
description fields. Not ideal, but expected.
