We purchased Symantec's Backup Exec System Recovery Server Edition 2010 for 3 of our mission critical servers. We are a relatively small shop and have been able to use ntbackup for the most part. I've included our current backup process as well as the a general plan to integrate BESR into the process. After doing a bit of research on using BESR, it was noted that when restoring a DC with BESR, you should recover that server off-line and perform a non-authoritative restore of AD from your last known good backup of the system state before connecting it to the network and letting it replicate with the remaining DC's. Additionally, the backup process of BESR may not flush the logs on Exchange or SQL so performing traditional backups is advised for that purpose. Being that this new tool has the potential to save us a lot of time during a crisis, I thought it would be helpful to get feedback from the experts on this list. I am sure I may have forgotten a thing or two so any questions or suggestions are much appreciated!
