hi everyone,

just wanted to run something by you regarding replication.

experienced a case the other week where i had two dc's in an ad site (and at
this point i will mention our replication takes the form of a star
topology). one dc in this site was the istg and had a connection object to
another dc in another site. the second dc had a connection object to the
istg. when i demoted the istg, within 15mins the second dc in the site had
made itself the istg and created a connection object with a dc in another
site. however, that dc in the other site, and all other dc's in other sites
didn't know about this change for hours. in fact i checked 5 hours later and
still nothing had changed. in the morning everything had finally replicated.
i had to do the remaining work i had planned the following night.

problem is i have to perform this process again. currently i have two dc's
in another site. one is the old one and the istg. the other is its
replacement and it must assume the same name. so what i need to do in a
single night is demote the current istg, have the new one assume the istg
role and establish a connection object to another dc in another site,
replicate all this, then i can rename the dc to the name of the old one and
replicate that too.

how do i speed up the process of making the other dc's recognising there is
a new istg for the site? i couldn't force replication last time because
there were no inbound connection objects created for it anywhere.

thanks in advance,

daniel.
