Hi Experts,

We are planning to upgrade our Domain Controllers from Win2k8R2 to WIN2K16.

I've the lab setup ready with WIN2K8 R2 DC's and Im not planning to do a in place upgrade. I've this question regarding adprep /forestprep /domainprep /gpprep.

Do i need to execute these commands manually if i install a fresh windows server 2016 & promoted as a DC ?

if No, how do i verify whether the Domainprep & Forestprep is completed successfully after introducing the first WIN2K16 DC

Hi Nidhin,

Those processes are already built-in into the promotion process, you can check the DCPROMO.log of the first WS2016 that you promote.

When you run the process you will actually get a prompt that says that the forest/domain need to be prepared.

Usual events for schema expansion and so will appear in the Event Log.

Cheers,

Thanks Danny. It worked.

I have another issue. From Windows Server 2016 DC, Domain Admins are unable to create files in SYSVOL share. If i explore C:\Windows\SYSVOL\sysvol\lab.com\scripts, then it is working fine. If i use default Administrator account, then also it works fine. We

don't have any issues in WIN2KR2 DC's in the same domain. I've already disabled UAC. Still no luck.

Fixed it. Lowering the UAC from control panel didnt worked. I had to change the value via registry. Now DA are able to create files in SYSVOL share.

Reg location: HKEYLOCALMACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System\EnableLUA

The way I’ve worked around this is to target a DC other than the one you are on.  So if you are on dc1, then from dc1, browse to

\dc2\sysvol and this will let you edit the files as a DA.
